Jayminkumar Patel
Chartered UK Trade Mark Attorney
Jay began his professional career working in engineering, specifically in the fields of clean tech and photonics, where he gained valuable knowledge and direct experience in technical matters. He also acquired wider commercial expertise working within a start-up environment, developing and managing a low-carbon product line. With a career change into IP, Jay started out as a Trainee Patent Attorney with exposure to mechanical engineering patents, but quickly found his niche in trade marks, qualifying as a Trade Mark Attorney in 2021.
Working in private practice, Jay has acquired extensive experience across a wide range of industries and sectors. He has managed trade mark portfolios of all sizes, and dealt with trade mark matters for clients ranging from multinationals to start-ups. Jay has a particular background and expertise in FMCG, which, given its nature, provides an excellent basis to assist clients elsewhere. He is also highly astute in the commercialisation and exploitation of his client’s IP.
Jay also has an impressive track record of successfully representing clients in contentious IP matters at both the UKIPO and EUIPO, and also has experience with IP matters at the IPEC and High Court.
Jay is currently training to qualify as a Solicitor and has completed Qualifying Work Experience at Chambers and Legal 500 ranked City firms.
Jay is a regular contributor to the CITMA and CIPA Trade Mark Handbook, the definitive UK guide to trade mark law and practice.
With an extensive background in trade mark matters in private practice and his client-side managerial experience, Jay brings practical, pragmatic, and commercially valuable IP advice to clients.
