His professional journey began in academia, where he developed a strong foundation in physics and engineering, focusing on optics, photonics, and semiconductor technologies. Through research and collaboration with scientists and engineers, he cultivated a rigorous analytical approach and a deep appreciation for the innovation lifecycle, from fundamental theory to practical application.

Transitioning from academia into industry, Wei joined one of the world’s largest laser manufacturers to work hands-on in advanced research and development, contributing to innovations in complex laser systems and high-precision optical technologies. His responsibilities spanned concept development, experimental validation, performance optimisation, and cross-functional collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams. This experience provided him with first-hand insight into the commercial and technical pressures faced by R&D teams, as well as the strategic importance of intellectual property in maintaining technological leadership.

Building on his technical background, Wei qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney and moved into private practice. Today, he advises a diverse client base ranging from start-ups and university spin-outs to multinational corporations. His practice covers a broad spectrum of deep-tech fields, including semiconductors, optics, photonics, communications systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning, advanced software, telecommunications, and standard essential patents (SEPs).

Wei has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office. His technical fluency allows him to quickly grasp complex inventions in areas such as (DUV, EUV) photolithography machines, laser/optical systems, electronic devices, and computer-implemented technologies. Clients value his ability to translate highly technical concepts into robust, strategically aligned patent applications designed to withstand examination and opposition.
