Registered European Union Designs

A registered European Union design, similar to a UK registered design, is an exclusive right that lasts for up to 25 years, again subject to payment of renewal fees every 5 years. A single application is filed covering all EU member states, and granted registrations are enforceable across all EU states in a single infringement action. As such, registered European Union designs present significant cost advantages compared to individual national applications and present a less complex avenue to protect your IP throughout the EU, in a market of around 450 million consumers.

Consequently, a registered European Union design offers protection in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.

Our expert team of IP attorneys has extensive knowledge of the EU design system and is able to help guide and support EU design applications.
